Track and field athletes from throughout the Lower Mainland and the Sunshine Coast came to Maple Ridge on Saturday to compete at the 5 th annual Eagle Classic Track & Field Meet at the newly resurfaced track at MRSS.
Olympic sprinter Tara Perry was on hand to sign autographs and present the Tara Perry Eagle Classic Sprint Award. The trophy was won by Adeyemi Taylor-Lewis of the Coquitlam Cheetahs with a 100m time of 13.34 seconds, and Hailey Gibson of the Valley Royals in a time of 13.36 seconds. The all-comers division of the 100m was won by 14 year old Sebastian Adugalski of the New Westminster Spartans in 11.97 seconds.
The remainder of the trophies were presented by Maple Ridge Mayor Ernie Daykin. The Debbie Brill high jump awards went to 12 year old William Johnston of Gibsons Elementary and 12 year old Eric Chatton of the Coquitlam Cheetahs, both having cleared 1.55m. Their results tied them for 10 th place on the BC all-time top 10 list. On the girls side the high jump winner was Amy Vicic of Ocean Athletics, with a leap of 1.45m.
The Andrew Lenton Golden Ears Mile trophy went to 13 year old Nathan Wadhwani of host club Golden Ears Athletics, with a time of 5:05.65, while the Cindy Foley Mile Award went to Sarya Ross of the Valley Royals, in a time of 5:55.04.
An exciting all- comers mile race saw Jacob Emerson of GEA narrowly edge out Brayden Gant from Maple Ridge, with a quick winning time for the hot day of 4:37.57. Gant`s effort was very impressive as it had been 6 years since he had competed on the track. On the women`s side Ally Ginther of White Rock`s Ocean Athletics won in 5:37.83.
The all-comers long jump event saw 20 year old Sviat Moldavanov of the Norwesters win with a leap of 6.54m, while the all-comers javelin toss was won by 46 year old Kevin Morgan with a throw of 52.55m.
The Outstanding Meet Performance award went to 11 year old Jordan Fletcher of the Langley Mustangs, with an 800m winning time of 2:22.54. This result put Fletcher into BC`s all-time top 10 list and ironically knocked out GEA`s James Clark`s BC all-time top 10 result from 2001.
The Langley Mustangs also accumulated the most overall points at the meet, and therefore received the trophy for the most outstanding team.

Multiple individual 1 st place finishers from GEA included Natalie Auersperg (200m and long jump), and Christina Johnstone (800m and mile). GEA also won the 11/12 year old girls 4 X 100m relay.
