Two beautiful days of sunshine were accompanied by scorching performances on the track on Mother`s Day weekend at the 2nd annual Eagle Classic Track and Field Meet in Maple Ridge The MRSS track now goes into the record books for new BC records for 65 year old males for the 100m and 200m; 65 year old Herb Gee, formerly of Maple Ridge, thrilled the large crowd by running the 100 m in 13.47 seconds and the 200 m in 28.16 seconds. This just narrowly missed the Canadian records.

The outstanding meet performance trophy was awarded to 9 year old Natalie Auersperg of Golden Ears Athletics. She won all 5 events which she entered, including the 100m, 200m, 800m, high jump, and long jump. Her 100m time of 15.02 was the 7th fastest time ever recorded in BC for her age category, and her 200m time of 31.66 seconds was the 10th fastest time ever in BC for her age.

The Golden Ears Mile trophies to the fastest milers of the day went to Jake McGeough and Paige Harrison, both from Vancouver Thunderbirds track club.

Olympic high jumping legend Debbie Brill was at the track Saturday afternoon to sign autographs and be honoured in a ceremony. She presented the Debbie Brill trophies to the top high jumpers, Florence Clifford from South Fraser track club in Surrey, and Jordan Clark from the Norwesters Club in North Vancouver.

The trophy for the top team at the meet went to host club Golden Ears Athletics with a total of 775 points. Close behind were the Pitt Meadows Pathers, Coquitlam Cheetahs Track Club and South Fraser Track Club.
