Our Coaching Staff

Track and Field:

The Head Coach for Golden Ears Athletics is Andrew Lenton.

The Eagles Track Club is planning to increase our coaching staff to 24 + over the next two years. We currently have a“Technical team” supported by a team of assistant coaches. In total there is a staffing of approximately 14 coaches providing expertise & experience across all of the event areas.

Bio:
Former National team member. Graduate of National Coaching Institute. Was an apprentice coach in 1994 under current Olympic coach Wynn Gmistroski. Former National team member. Former BC Junior record holder at 1500m, 3000m, & 5000m. USA indoor 3000m Champion. All-American at Simon Fraser University in Cross Country. Also attended the University of Tennessee on track scholarship. Has been a provincial team coach & National Youth Development Camp coach.

Bio:
A Long jump / triple jump specialist. Rick still competes at the international level as a Masters athlete. A former Simon Fraser University team member.

Former track athlete competing with the Coquitlam Cheetahs Track Club & Simon Fraser University. 

 

Norm Tinkham – Senior Endurance coach

Bio:
Former National team member. Has represented Canada at several World Championships. A former National champion at 10,000m. Currently a physiotherapist in Maple Ridge.  

 

Jiri Novy –Senior Multi-Events coach

Former professional track & field athlete from Czechoslovakia. Has competed internationally in the Decathlon.

Coached in Alberta for years with the St. Albert Track Club. Her daughter Claire was a charter member of GEA in 1998.

James Clark – Junior Development coach

Bio:
Double Gold medalist at the BC High School Championships in track while in his senior year. Top ranked Junior 1500m runner in Canada in 2010. Currently a team captain on the University of Idaho Vandals Track & Field team. 

 

Janae Dunlop– Junior Development coach

Bio:
Several years coaching in the Track Rascals program. Graduating from MRSS this year, & has represented the school at the BC High School Championships several times. Is competing at the provincial level in track & field.

About Golden Ears Athletics:
Golden Ears Athletics is a Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows community based athletics club that has been providing coaching services in track & field, cross country, and road racing since 1998. It is a registered non-profit society in British Columbia.

Mission Statement: To develop a diverse athletic club which will provide participants with the opportunity to develop physically while learning new skills associated with track & field. To provide a positive environment for self growth, goal setting, physical development, competition, and increased self confidence through achievement.
