Golden Ears Athlete - Empraim Tadesse
Signs with Simon Fraser University

Burnaby, BC - Ephraim Tadesse (Surrey, BC) has committed to the Simon Fraser University track and field team and will join the Clan in the fall.

“I wanted to find a good solid program that was local and SFU joining the NCAA was a big factor," said Tadesse. "My coach is close to the program and the school is great academically."

The North Surrey Secondary School product is a distance runner who competes in the 800-metre, 1500-metre, 3000-metre and will run cross country for the Clan.

“Over the next few months, I'm just going to put in the time and do a lot of running to be ready to reach my goals next year. Consistency is going to be key for me to move forward,” continued Tadesse.

At the 2010 BC Summer Games, which were held in Langley, Tadesse won two gold medals, one in the
1200-metre and one in the 2000-metre.

This year, his personal best mile time was 4:22 and 8:41 in the 3000-metre.

Tadesse is also a former medalist at the BC High School Games, having won a bronze in the 1500-metre when he was in grade nine.

"He is a great kid," said his coach Scott Svelander. "He's a team leader and his positive attitude is contagious. He brings a positive tone and is very talented. His real gift is he can maintain speed really easily and as a distance athlete that's a real gift, to be able to maintain speed with very little effort."

He had the top time in 2011 in the Surrey Track and Field Club in the 800-metre, the 1500-metre and the second best time in the 3000-metre.

While undecided, Tadesse is considering pursuing criminology at SFU.
